Cyclic Phosphonates General Information
SMC 688 flame retardant is a unique cyclic phosphonate product. Chemically equivalent to Amgard CU, this high phosphorus containing material is suited for applications in both thermosoling of polyester fabric for wash durability as well as topical non-durable applications of a variety of fabric types and contraction. It also demonstrates excellent flame improvement with many textile back coatings. SMC 688 is suited for acrylic based latices and other oxygen containing polymers. SMC 688 is used to assist the textile back coater in meeting the NFPA 701, MVSS-302, and other flammability standards for textile fabrics. It has excellent water solubility and can be added directly to the latex without the addition of an emulsifier. In addition, this neat material has shown promise as a flame retardant for several polymer compounds including polyurethane foam, elastomer, TPU, and adhesives.

SMC 688T flame retardant was developed as a low viscosity alternative to SMC 688. Chemically equivalent to Amgard CT, SMC 688T is a member of our family of unique phosphorus based products designed primarily for the textile industry. This high phosphorus containing cyclic phosphonate material is particularly suited for applications in textile back coatings where the applicator cannot handle a high viscosity flame retardant. SMC 688T is used to assist the textile back coater in meeting NFPA 701 , MVSS-302, and other flammability standards for textile fabrics. It is most effective with acrylic-based latexes and other oxygen containing polymers. SMC 688T has excellent water-soluble and can be added directly to the latex without the addition of an emulsifier.
