Aryl Phosphines

 SMC Global (SMC) is a leading supplier and producer of organophosphorus compounds.  SMC’s flagship Phosphorus Derivatives business, anchored by two manufacturing plants now, was our first business area, and SMC’s first investment in production capacity.

The organophosphorus Aryl Phosphine derivatives, including Sodium Benzene Phosphinate and Potassium Benzene Phosphinate, have a great potential for industrial uses as building blocks, catalysts and intermediates in the fields of high performance polymers, yarn production, metal recovery, and corrosion protection in metalworking fluids, dispersants, and lubricity of high-temperature greases.

In addition to our aryl phosphines production capabilities, today we are one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of other well-known organophosphorus chemicals such as sodium hypophosphite (SHP), hypophosphorus acid (HPA), and phosphonium salts – Tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS) and Tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride (THPC).


Sodium Benzene Phosphinate (Na-BZPA) and Potassium Benzene Phosphinate (K-BZPA) find uses as:

  • A color, light and heat stabilizer for polymers especially polyamide resins and other formulations;
  • Aid improving nylon 6,6 color stability and brightness and its production process;
  • Catalyst improving nylon fiber tensile strength, UV color stability and dye-ability; catalyst for branched chain polyamide synthesis;
  • Powerful reducing agent that reacts rapidly with oxidizing agents in redox-catalyzed polymerization;
  • Flame retardant for both thermoplastic and thermoset polymers; Color and odor inhibitor when used as a catalyst for some thermoplastics, olefin, diolefin, vinyl ethers, esters and acetals;
  • Aid improving clarity in polyetherimides and polyetherimide/polyester plastic blends; Polyethylene discoloration inhibitor and improving lubricity in polyphenyl thioether-based lubricants;
  • Aid in producing linear amorphous polyamides;
  • Flame retardant for polycarbonates;
  • Corrosion inhibitor on thin aluminum surfaces.
