Welcome to SMC Global’s EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT, where we shine a light on our exceptional employees, delve into their roles within SMC, and engage in a quick Q&A session to get to know them better!

This month, we have the pleasure of sitting down with Roberto McQueen. Roberto’s journey with SMC began in 2014 as a temporary employee, and through his dedication and hard work, he is currently the Texas Operations Site Manager. Notably, he spearheaded the successful completion of the San Angelo facility, a monumental project that stands as one of his most significant managerial achievements.

THE INTERVIEW
Q: How has your job evolved since you started working here?
Roberto: When I first joined SMC in New York City, I served as an Administrative Assistant to co-founder Adam Feldman. From there, I transitioned to roles in Customer Service, Domestic Logistics, Inventory and Supply Chain, and finally, my current role as the Manager of Plant Operations in Texas. Each of these positions has contributed to enhancing my knowledge in my current role.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Roberto: Sleeping…you can never go wrong with a nice nap. Traveling to see new places is also my thing, when I have free time.

Q: Before working at SMC, what was your most unusual job?
Roberto: When I was 15, I got a summer job near McGuire AFB, the airbase my dad was stationed at. I worked at this place called Whitebog Preservation. They would flood the cranberry bogs with water and pay kids to go in there with rubber suits and kick around the bushes to knock the cranberries to the top of the water to be collected for Ocean Spray. Dumbest job ever, but it was fun since it was in the summer heat, and…. I got paid for it.

Q: One thing you can’t live without?
Roberto: Phone Charger

Q: Name one thing on your bucket list.
Roberto: Seeing the Pyramids

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
Roberto: I have come to appreciate the dynamic nature of my role, as no two days are ever alike. This constant state of flux keeps me alert and consistently engaged in forward-thinking.

Q: What sets SMC apart from other companies you’ve worked for?
Roberto: At SMC, every person wears many hats, and no position is a cookie-cutter standard. This unique aspect of our work environment allows for diverse experiences and opportunities for growth.

Roberto’s story serves as a compelling testament to SMC’s unwavering commitment to its employees’ success. It exemplifies the organization’s genuine belief in our employee’s potential and our relentless dedication to providing the necessary support for our employee’s growth within the company.
